Shonen Bat by Ballistyc Shonen Bat by Ballistyc
Shonen Bat from Satoshi Kon's Paranoia Agent
based the pose on the DVD cover

super sculpey, baked/unpainted
8.5"

Did this a few years ago, 2004, I think. Still haven't painted it .....someday though

here's a [link] to a picture for comparison. I just realized his calves are a bit thin, and his clothes should be more baggy. Maybe i should fix those before I paint him

Very nice likeness and timely, too!

I just got done watching the Paranoia Agent TV series all the way through for the first time the other day!
I've had the original US DVD releases for close to 10 years now but never made time to watch them...

Very underrated series.
But then again so was the rest of Satoshi Kon's work.

Anime fandom really doesn't appreciate Kon's work that well.
I guess it's because the films and TV show challenge people's perceptions of reality, the way anime and fandom really are, and pokes holes in the idea that Japan is somehow this geek paradise.
People prefer safe, simple things like Dragonball Z and laserguns.  Anything more complicated gives them headaches and scares them...  that's sort of why things are a huge mess in the world right now.

People just don't want to deal with reality.
That was a huge theme in Paranoia Agent and arguably 3 of the 4 films Kon directed.

Thanks!

You have an interesting assessment of Kon's impact on anime culture.
I personally think Kon was very popular, one of the Godfather's of anime in fact.
And his work transcends language and culture....transcends the anime genre too.
...and it's hard to find an film fan who doesn't know his work. I know Roger Ebert
a fan...
But still I understand what you mean to an extent...how most anime is still
directed at widest possible demographic which includes people who enjoy
watching large scale battles ala  Dragonball.

What a brilliant sculpt. Trying to get back into sculpting myself, and I am in awe of what you've done. A great homage to a great creator.

I would have loved to have known what he thought.

oh thanks a lot

Regarding your question.
I work with sculpey in my hands. Holding it while
I sculpt. If I were a more intelligent man I would
attach it to a plinth or a base.......but Im not...
...so I suffer while my fingers smudge out details
that I spent hours to achieve.....haha

thanks for the comment!!

Yeah Im particularly stubborn with my sculpting,
so I dont often change bad habbits, but I do suggest
attaching your armature to a base when sculpting.
It'll make your life much easier.

Yes I'm a fan.
I probably have the biggest collection of amimé in the midwest.
For sure the largest if you count Jaspar and Mika's dvd's and everything we've downloaded.
Macross Plus and DeathNote are probably my faves.

that's very cool...
I don't watch much anime, but I usually
like what I've see....I have a friend
who's very passionate though.
Any anime recommendations?

I've enjoyed;
Dead Leaves
Cat Soup
Kemonozume
Tekkonkinkreet
Mind Game
....pretty much anything that's really spastic..
I've also enjoyed all of Miyazaki's, Otomo's,
and Satoshi Kon's work...

Those are all great, especially Dead Leaves.
Maybe try Death Note, though I fell in love with it through the manga first.
The anime introduced me to one of my all-time favorite bands- Maximum The Hormone.
Also-Kaiba and FLCL are musts.
Everything else really depends on your tastes.
i like stupid stuff like Bleach and Kurosawa-like stuff where groups of adventurers go on quests.
It's the old dungeon master in me.
