done in conte with some dusty chalk material, I think it's charcoal......sorry I dont know the art lingo
I cant draw faces if Im life depended on it, so my stuff usually ends up looking like freaky mannequins
....every pose this model did reminded me of some heroic comic book super hero. I thought this was kinda like his Superman pose. I wish I had more time on this.......was only a 30 or 40 minute pose
This is really quite nice. I can definately see-feel the tension in the abs. maybe he was showing off? ...Your DA page says you live in the t-dott (forgive that last bit please).. Where do you do your drawings? I'm not really sure where to go, we've got a nude model at my school 'till tomorrow and then that's it.. I definately know what you mean about the faces though. The reference - T usually gets the point enough well enough
hey thanks for the comment.... the bit about the abs....the model wasn't really showing off. He was just naturally fit, and acting like himself. Interesting tid bit on the model himself.......he's legally blind, but doesnt walk around with a cane. He can see a few inches from his face though, so every time he would look at his watch it would be pressed up against his face. I didn't even know he was blind until my instructor told me.
I had this model several times, and in this one particular time he happened to be walking ahead of me to the subway station after class had ended. It was a pitch black winter night and he had taken the long root to the station. He managed to get there before me!!!!......without any aids!!!! It was incredible......alright enough about the model...haha
yes I do live in Toronto......Im glad you were able to decipher my clues To answer your question; I do all my life drawings at my school (OCAD), but I wont be anymore cause this was my last year. So I'm kinda in your situation now......I need to find some place with live models. If you're not in desperate need for nude models at the moment you can always wait for OCAD classes to start again and sneak in while people are working...haha I think I might have to start doing that.... Also there are advertisments posted on bulletin boards around my school from models. They're quite costly (I think somewhere around $40 an hour) but you could always get a bunch of friends and split the cost..
.....yeah and about me drawing faces (or lack there of) I suck.......and I'll do anything but draw the face, as you might come to realize after seeing my work. But I also have another reason for wanting to leave out the face, and that's because I find faces (whether they are good or badly drawn) will always destract from the overall anatomy, which I think is the most important aspect in figure drawing. When Im forced to fill in something in that facial area I tend to screw around...haha
dont apologize for having a long post cause mine's longer....haha. I enjoy telling people my thing is longer than theirs.....haha take care.....drive safely

wow, thats awesome, about the model. not everyone who's disabled is un-able, people kindof assume that someone who is hard of hearing or blind or mute can't do much of anything but often they're very talented in some way or other. I often wonder if some of these people get pressured into thinking they're worse off than they are by the public and it becomes a self-fullfilling prophecy sort of thing...
Oh OCAD, that explains a lot I suppose... What are you taking? I wanted to go to OCAD for a long time, but now I'm looking into Sheridan because they're a little more cutting-edge with the computers and all that jazz. Still traditional art pulls me back in again so I'm a little lost... I go to ESA, I dunno if you know of it, it's an arts highschool.
Splitting the cost and all that sounds like a good idea, except that I'm a little wary especially with the male models. I've never drawn a male nude aside from what i could scrounge in books and pictures so i'd like t, but i've heard stories...........
Yeah, we just wrapped up figure drawing and i know what you mean about the faces. I find it's not ony difficult (i tend to draw a bit small on the paper) but it never turns out right anyway so what the hell. Sometimes to not ditract from the rest of it, just closing the persons eyes help, and keeping thier face blank.
I have no idea about this ESA high school.....haha sorry although an art high school sounds interesting I think Danforth Tech has an art program too, right?
My best friend went to Sheridan for animation....he says it's a good school. I can tell you that OCAD sucks though....haha. Well maybe it doesn't suck per say, but it's really lacking in technical courses. The school has been slowly transitioning into an University, and because of that a lot studio courses have been replaced by lectures.....it's strange. I went to OCAD for sculpture.....I was actually planning on going Sheridan as well, but they didn't have a sculpture program (and cermanics doesnt count in my opinion). What's ironic though is that I eventually stopped majoring in sculpture and become a non-major instead....I guess this was for personal issues and also it didnt help that the sculpture department got the short end of the stick from the school.
Im not sure what kind of stories you've heard about male models....haha care to enlighten me? I 've got a funny male model story too if you'd like to hear... but that also reminds me though that I never had male models in highschool either. I wonder why that is??? I guess male genitalia is objectionable in the highschool curriculum....haha

I don't know about Danforth Tech... ESA stands for Etobicoke School of the Arts, there's probably a few ESA kids kicking around at OCAD, they tend to sporulate.
I think the lecure thing is pretty obvious. I mean it's like college courses vs university courses in highschool: one is geared towards the hands-on, the other is more academia, so they're gonna have to shift towards the latter to be considered a university. Sheridan I gather is more about technology and OCAD is more traditional stuff. I've never understood sculture at all. It's amazing to me when someone can actually make something that looks good from all angles, so give youself a pat on the back.
No no, male genitalia is probably fine in ESA. We were trying to get one this year. the problem is, they've had male models that come in and start hitting on the girls while they're drawing and the like. The school is roughyly 70% girls.
alright yeah....my male model story... back in first year, during one of my first life drawing classes the model we had did a lot of arcobatic/yoga-type poses, and for our 1 minute gesture poses he decided to do a hand stand pose (imagine the break dancer move where they spin on their head). It must have been a particularly hot and sticky day cause his penis was stuck to his inner thigh, and when he went up on his hands it was still sticking there, defying gravity. About 30 seconds into the pose it proceeded to flop down and literally made a little clap sound.......I almost bursted out laughing (because Im an immature bastard) but I realized that no one else had noticed, so I just kept my mouth shut.....alright so that's my stupid little model story....haha
it's interesting that you say male models would hit on girls in your school cause the girls in my classes would tend to hit on this model I just mentioned because he kinda looks like Johnny Depp......he looks so much like him right down to the style and demeanor....he even wore a fedora all the time. His name's Patrick and I still remember that because all the girls would talk about him, and whenever they brought his name up I would tell them my stupid Patrick story......haha
alright take care....drive safely

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant.
