modern mythology created from genetic engineering. Im actually planning a whole series of these things. I'll make a minotaur next.
Bronze Patina done in Photoshop 7" x 10" CLICK HERE to see my Centaur drawing that I later drew I did this in late 06'. I never got it completed past the initial bronze stage.....no treatment of the surface, no patina, straight bronze.....exactly the way it looked out of the shell. The Patina you see here was done in Photoshop. I wanted the piece to look rough like a sketch, so I made the wax figure fairly quickly ignoring a lot of minor details, but once the bronze was poured I kind of regreted not doing more. I should've worked on it a little more to refine the forms. I'm gonna do another one in polymer clay when I get the time.... |

This isn't what it looks like!
Take care
I probably wont patina this piece because I've basically abandoned it.......it still has particles of the "shell mold" stuck in it, but thanks for you kind words. Im glad you like it
I was thinking if you ever wanted to do a trade for any of your other work...
Just really like a lot of your gallery.
Trading is the funnest way for us to collect art we really love.
If you ever get a wild hair I could do a knock out patina on it...
If you get a chance, check out Spectrum 13 and look at the Silver award winner called Centaurus...That's bronze and that would be what I could see going on your sculpture. I worked in a foundry for 6 1/2 years before I started sculpting full time, and 90 % of what went through, wasn't worth casting. Your piece is definitely in the top percentile of what I've seen. The shell is no problem... I can sandblast it and patina it... Just think about it...
You may have a whole different perspective on the piece after it's colored. The trade would be whatever you might sell something for at a gallery or show, and then whatever I would have to charge for the patina. I'm thinking on something like that the patina would come to around $150 to $200 depending on the extent of the shell on it...
Check out [link] That's the foundry I used to work at that still casts my work. I have all the chemicals etc. here at my studio. I do freelance patina now and then for fun for others, but do my own patina work all the time. No problem if you don't want to color your piece though. I totally understand where you're coming from. I have a lot of pieces that I don't put out in public and are stored away or on shelves. I call that shelf "death row". Keep up the great work...Take care
I originally had this planned as a life size animatronic piece for my thesis, but various things prevented me from starting.....I will however return to the themes of this piece in the near future, and hopfully I will one have a life sized version of this completed before I die...
thanks for the comments...
oh btw do you have a link to that Spectrum 13 Centurus?? I cant seem to find any images on the net
Amazon usually sells back issues of Spectrum as well.
I also saw a link on the artist (andrew sinclair)in my Spectrum book...his email is andy@ridgewaysculpture.com
so I'm assuming that ridgewaysculpture.com is the link to that work.
Good luck!
Take care
